The world is a patchwork of nonsensical landscapes, from forests of giant rubber chickens to mountains made of slightly stale cake. Gravity is merely a suggestion, and the sky is often the wrong color just for fun. The inhabitants of Onlyria are a motley crew of sentient objects, anthropomorphic concepts, and beings who have forgotten what they were supposed to be. They navigate their chaotic home with a mix of exasperation and cheerful resignation, constantly trying to appease the Grand Jester’s unpredictable whims to prevent things from getting even weirder (which, of course, they always do).**Core Mechanics:*** **The Rule of Funny:** The primary driving force. If something is sufficiently humorous, ironic, or absurd, the Grand Jester may allow it to happen, bending or breaking the established “rules” of a scene. A player can attempt a “Comedic Appeal” to justify an unlikely success by describing a hilarious chain of events. * **Jester’s Whim (GM Fiat):** The GM, as the voice of the Grand Jester, has final say on what absurdity occurs. Dice rolls can be overruled by a particularly good joke or a narrative need for chaos. * **Saving Throw vs. Ridiculousness:** When faced with a potentially dangerous or reality-bending absurdity (like a sudden rain of custard or a spontaneous musical number), characters roll a d20. A high roll means they maintain their composure and can act normally. A low roll means they are overcome by the sheer silliness and suffer a temporary disadvantage or are forced to participate in the madness. * **Pie-ometry:** The universal unit of measurement. Distance, weight, volume, and even time can be measured in “pies.” (“The chasm is about three cream pies wide.” “The meeting lasted a solid four fruit pies.”) * **The Law of Narrative Causality:** Similar to discworld, but more slapstick. If a character runs with a priceless vase, they will trip. If someone says “What could possibly go wrong?”, something will. If a villain monologues, they will be interrupted by a falling anvil (or a large, comically-timed sneeze).**Character Creation:** Characters are defined by three traits:1. **Your Schtick:** Your core comedic archetype. (e.g., The Deadpan Snarker, The Lovable Oaf, The High-Strung Intellectual, The Walking Pun, The Accident-Prone Hero, The Sentient Inanimate Object with a Grudge). 2. **Your Gimmick:** One special, absurd ability tied to your Schtick. (e.g., The Deadpan Snarker can deliver a line so dry it temporarily dehydrates opponents; The Lovable Oaf can accidentally solve complex problems by knocking over the right thing; The Sentient Toaster can shoot lightly-buttered toast with surprising accuracy). 3. **Your Flaw:** A fatal comedic flaw that inevitably creates trouble. (e.g., Cripplingly Literal-minded, Allergic to Dignity, Compulsively Finishes Other People’s Sentences… Incorrectly, Believes Everything is a Metaphor).**Resolution:** When success or failure is uncertain and not covered by the Rule of Funny, roll a d6. * **1: Catastrophic Failure.** Not only do you fail, but the Grand Jester finds it hilarious. Your flaw is activated in the worst possible way, and the situation becomes exponentially more absurd and problematic. * **2-3: Failure.** You fail, but in a mildly amusing or inconvenient way. * **4-5: Success with a Twist.** You accomplish your goal, but something silly, ironic, or unexpected happens as a direct result. Your flaw might gently manifest. * **6: Triumphant Success!** You succeed brilliantly, and your action is so perfectly in tune with the universe’s absurdity that it generates a minor, beneficial comedic effect (e.g., you find a useful item in your pocket you didn’t know was there, your opponent is momentarily stunned by the elegance of your foolishness).**Example of Play:****GM:** You stand before the Gates of Mirth, a towering archway made of intertwined whoopee cushions and giggling stone faces. The path to the Grand Jester’s Labyrinthine Lounge lies beyond. The gatekeeper, a large, melancholic badger in a too-small beret, blocks your way. “Password,” he sighs, not looking up from his tiny, sad book of poetry.**Player (as Zax, the Literal-Minded Golem):** “My schtick is being literal. My flaw is taking everything at face value. I say, ‘Password.’ I have given the requested data string.”**GM:** Roll for it.**Player:** *rolls a d6… gets a 4* “Success with a twist!”**GM:** The badger looks up, utterly confused. “No… that *is* what I asked for. I asked *for* the password. You just repeated the word ‘password.’” He pinches the bridge of his nose. “Look, it’s ‘Ollie.’ The password is ‘Ollie.’ Now, why did you do that?”**Player:** “You instructed me to provide ‘password.’ I provided the lexical token ‘password.’ The instruction was unclear. You should have said ‘Provide the *secret* password.’”**GM:** The badger stares, then lets out a long, suffering sigh that seems to deflate him slightly. “Just… just go in. The sheer pedantic energy is giving me a headache. The Grand Jester will *love* you.” He presses a paw against a whoopee cushion, producing a sad, flabby sound, and the gates creak open.
