The small tree pillar (panel on maple) was replaced between 1836 and 1841 by an oratory.
In a private document dated June 19, 1837, it is stated that the church was to have canonical measurements derived from the Bible, namely: 15 meters in length, 6 in width, and 8 in height. The work began on August 27, 1837. On May 23, 1841, the altar and the paving of the presbytery were inaugurated, and the tablet was carried in procession to the oratory. The niche that houses it was completed in 1843. Description: Terracotta panel in bas-relief (height 25 cm by 20 cm width) depicting the Madonna and Child, dating back to the 17th century. Originally, the panel was hung on a maple tree. The Madonna is depicted half-length with her hands crossed on her chest and her eyes lowered. The ownership of the tablet was claimed by a certain Maria Montanini. The tablet was carried in procession inside the oratory on May 23, 1841. Entered into use: between the year 1600 and the year 1699 Image: Other
Events prior to the foundation of the sanctuary. According to tradition, the image (a terracotta panel in bas-relief originally hung on a maple tree), several times transported to the parish church, would always have been found back in its original position on the maple tree. It is also recounted that on June 2, 1836, on the occasion of Corpus Domini, it happened that while a bouquet of flowers brought by a faithful quickly withered, around the trunk of the maple tree a bean plant sprouted, forming a garland crowning the effigy. From that moment, a tradition of miracles is recorded, among which the healing (July 2, 1836) of a certain Antonio Fulgeri and the healing of the child of a certain Pietro Scaglioni are remembered. After the prodigies of 1836, devotion to the tablet intensified (there is news of the interest of the bishop of Modena in the event) leading to the erection of a small column on which the tablet was placed. It was the first step towards the construction of the sanctuary. In favor of this initiative, the Corsini family (owners of the land on which the image had been placed) and Maria Montanini, who claimed ownership of the image, sided. A committee for the erection of the sanctuary was also formed, which obtained permission to build a small oratory from Mons. Adeodato Caleffi, bishop of Modena. In support of the initiative, a certain Pietro Scaglioni also sided, who wrote to the religious authorities (letter dated August 7, 1836) that he had obtained the healing of his son from the miraculous image. The erection of the building was not unrelated to the hope of the Verichesi to find a form of intercession and protection against the spread of cholera.
