    The image of the Madonna, present since the early 16th century, was placed on a pillar along the road. In 1521 Giovanni Bastardi of San Michele donated some land to promote the cult of the Madonna.

    In the 18th century, the sanctuary was modified. Before the works – but the text does not specify exactly when – the altar dedicated to the Madonna della Neve was under the patronage of the Toschi family, which later ceded it to the Gatti family (Schenetti, p. 155).
