Another version of the legend, similar to that of the Madonna del Pozzo in Empoli, recounts how some children playing near the well accidentally threw a stone into it. The impact produced a sound resembling a cry of pain, and when the children peered into the well, they found a fresco of the Virgin slightly damaged on her cheek. This event, interpreted as a divine sign, further reinforced the sacredness of the site.
