That Monte della Musella was renamed Monte di San Vicinio is attested by the Sarsina Synod of 1380 and the pastoral visit of 1573.
A possible origin of the mountain’s association might lie in a passage from the “Life of Saint Vicinius,” which refers to the “summit of the spiritual mountain” (“in spiritualis montis vertice constitutus”), a metaphorical expression indicating the spiritual elevation achieved by the saint upon his appointment as bishop. Over time, this may have been interpreted as a specific physical location.

Inside, visitors can admire exquisite artworks, including a notable 1761 canvas by Michele Valbonesi depicting the Apparition of the Virgin and Child to the Hermit Saint Vicinius. The painting testifies to the deep veneration of the saint and the centuries-old Marian devotion rooted in this place.
