This sacred image was initially placed on a pillar along the mule track leading to Monte Rocchetta, soon becoming a destination for prayer and devotion.

Over time, devotion to Our Lady of Mercy grew steadily, prompting the local community to erect a small temple in her honor. The construction, completed and consecrated on July 17, 1864, marked the birth of the current sanctuary.
