The sacred image represents the Archangel Gabriel announcing to Mary her destiny as Mother of God. The Virgin, with her hands raised to heaven, receives the divine message with humility and faith. The Origin of the Sanctuary: A Ducal Miracle
The history of the sanctuary is closely linked to the Moncada family, one of the most important noble families in Sicily. In the 16th century, it is said that the daughter of the Duke of Moncada fell from a balcony. Miraculously, the child remained unharmed and told of being saved by the Virgin Annunziata, depicted in a painting owned by her family.
Deeply grateful for the grace received, the Duke decided to donate the miraculous image to the existing church, located on the north-west side of his castle. This gesture marked the beginning of a new era for the sacred place.
April 27, 1571: The Day of Miracles in Collesano
The fame of the painting grew rapidly, and on April 27, 1571, Collesano was the scene of extraordinary events. The sound of the bells of the Annunziata church summoned the population to the streets, where a series of miracles attributed to the intercession of the Virgin Mary took place. From that day on, the Annunziata church was renamed the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Miracles, a testament to the celestial power that had manifested in that place.

Art and Devotion: A Sanctuary in Continuous Evolution
Over the centuries, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Miracles has been enriched and embellished thanks to the generosity of the faithful and the devotion of the Moncada family. In 1580, Duchess Aloisa, wife of the Duke of Moncada, financed a complete renovation of the chapel of Our Lady of Miracles, which was adorned with stucco, gilding, wooden carvings, and the coats of arms of the noble family.
In the 18th century, the chapel was expanded and connected, through an arch, to the adjacent chapels dedicated to St. Anthony and the Holy Crucifix, creating a beautiful and harmonious sacred complex.
The care of the sanctuary was initially entrusted to the Dominican Fathers, owners of the Annunziata church, and later to the Capuchin Fathers.
