Madonna della Salute Sanctuary: A place of faith, history, and mystery in the heart of Veneto

The Madonna della Salute Sanctuary in Cismon del Grappa, a hamlet of Bassano del Grappa (VI), is a complex that holds centuries of history, faith, and popular devotion. It consists of the parish church, with a single nave, from which visitors can access, on the right side, a striking octagonal chapel housing the sacred image and testimonies of received graces.

The Sacred Image: A treasure of faith and art

At the heart of devotion lies a splendid gilded wooden statue, approximately 90 cm tall and weighing 32 kg, depicting the Madonna holding the Child Jesus (placed on her left side). This ancient artwork likely dates back to the 15th century. The Virgin is portrayed crowned, symbolizing her royalty and maternal intercession.

During World War I, in 1917, the statue of the Madonna was moved to Giarre, Sicily, to protect it from the dangers of war. The village of Cismon was almost completely destroyed, but faith in the Madonna della Salute remained a beacon of hope for the people.
