The confiscation of monastic properties in 1806 represented a break, but in 1875 the municipality of Mesoraca transformed the convent into a Poorhouse, entrusting its care to some friars, thus preserving its social and religious vocation.

After the French occupation of 1806, the friars were removed and the convent suppressed, with the jurisdiction and care of the Sanctuary passing to the Secular Clergy.
